NONSUN - Sun Blind Me [2013]

Nonsun is a doom/drone/sludge metal duo from Lviv, Ukraine. Formed in 2011 by Goatooth (guitars, bass, vocals) and Alpha (drums). Nonsun started with a 4-track (but 48-minute) demo EP "Good Old Evil" which was self-released in December 2012. EP "Sun Blind Me", which consists of 2 new tracks plus 2 songs from the demo, was released in September 2013 through Breathe Plastic Records (DIY tape label from the Netherlands) as a limited edition of 50 cassettes and Drowning (drone/doom net-label from Denmark) as a free download.

Généralement, qui dit musique expérimentale dit chronique difficile, car chacun à l’écoute de ce genre de musique se fait son propre voyage et ressent différemment cette dernière. Shelving est un jeune groupe Suisse qui a enregistré son premier effort « Imihs » de seulement 2 plages, mais pour près de 50 minutes de musique hypnotique et psychédélique. Ici peu de guitare, pas de chant, une batterie jazzy et des ambiances post-rock nous rappelant par moment du Pink Floyd ou plus flagrant, Godspeed You ! Black Emperor.

Loin des clichés musicaux actuel, Shelving progresse dans un univers à la fois chaotique, sombre et paisible…comment ?tout simplement en mariant la douceur du post-rock à la violence du noise et du drone, les nappes de synthé aux intonations agressives jouant sur notre inconscient et accentuant cette impression d’opression permanente. On reconnaitra certaines ambiances que l’on entend également chez Rorcal (particulièrement si on compare avec le morceau unique de « Monochrome ») bien qu’à contrario, Shelving ne pousse pas vraiment les portes du métal et s’enfonce d’ailleurs un peu trop dans des passages expérimentaux parfois un peu longuet, surtout la fin du deuxième morceau qui parait interminable.

Dans tous les cas, Shelving fait parti de cette élite de groupes qui sont inclassables et difficiles à cerner, surtout pour celui ou celle qui chercherait à absolument à lui mettre une étiquette. Shelving reste une entitée à part, à la fois impénétrable et ensorcelante, alors soyez certain que leur musique ne laissera personne indifférent. Avis aux amateurs...
