DYSPHORIA - To the Perfect Form of Modern Species [2012]

"This Ukrainian band is quite weird, and Ukraine shares borders with, and even used to be part of Russia, so I'm not surprised. The ID3v2 tag states "regressive mathcore/deathcore" as the genre, which oddly describes the music, even though I've never heard "regressive" used in such context. A barrage of various vocal styles, bizarre time signatures, dissonant chords, chug-tastic verse riffs you'll probably mistake for breakdowns, and such. Avid listeners of both mathcore or deathcore will find this release truly unique, blending the non-shitty aspects of both genres into a captivating amalgam of eerie unpredictability and pulverizing heaviness."

MAGNETOSCOP - Une fleur dans le goudron [2012]

Influencé par le rock indépendant, Magnetoscop interprète une musique instrumentale rejoignant l’univers du post rock. Rassemblés depuis 2010, les cinq musiciens qui composent le groupe viennent enrichir le projet de leur univers propre. De cette complémentarité naît une musique inattendue de laquelle émerge des émotions contradictoires.

Des tonalités sombres, voire oppressantes trouvent leur souffle dans des passages plus aériens, alors que de fulgurantes montées en puissance font retomber une tension savamment orchestrée. Une musique envoûtante, qui sait sonner comme on ne l’attend pas, et tenir son public en halène, le conduisant instantanément de la douceur à la violence, de la caresse à la brutalité... Il ressort ainsi des compositions de Magnetoscop un questionnement latent sur la relation de l’Homme à son environnement, entre admiration, respect, destruction ou désir d’évasion...

Cette ambivalence s’exprime à travers une dualité musicale, exacerbée par l’usage de samples et vidéos. Issus du cinéma, ces extraits font partie intégrante du travail de composition. Ils mettent en exergue les thèmes de prédilection du groupe, faisant de Magnetoscop un projet artistique global et résolument singulier.

PRAY FOR SOUND - Monophonic (EP) [2012]

Pray for Sound is a Massachusetts based solo post-rock project started by Bruce Malley in 2011. After struggling to find musicians willing to take the project seriously, Bruce decided to go through with the undertaking alone. About a year later, after meticulously writing, recording and rerecording, Pray for Sound's debut album, Monophonic, will finally be released on September 25th, 2012.

Inspired by Bruce's struggle with hearing loss, Monophonic takes the listener on an emotional roller coaster. In 2005, doctors discovered a destructive cyst called a cholesteatoma growing inside Bruce's left ear. After surgical removal of the cyst and reconstruction of his ear, he was left with severe hearing loss, tinnitus, and reoccurring ear pain. These emotional experiences were translated into the music and artwork that make up Monophonic.

With mixing and mastering by Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna, Pg.lost), the five track EP is dark, melodic and explosive, taking musical inspiration from bands like Explosions in the Sky and Russian Circles, to those outside of the post-rock genre such as Pink Floyd and The Cure.
